Freindly, helpful staff, big rooms, good food and excellent safe location. Short drive or taxi ride to Newbury.

Only the archtecture and the sorounding countryside. The staff were unfreindly and the food was poor and I was nearly ripped for for £95 extra room by the girl on reception lucky for me I noticed it. I wouldnt recommend you or ever stay again under the present owners or conditions or staff . and I know im not the first or last so keep loosing business is a great way forward .

    Fabulous

Nice place, old castle, nice garden with golf, river, bridge etc.

Breakfast, a small selection, slow, reluctant staff, lack of bread, dinner isn´t espresso coffee but only instant cappuccino

    Very good

The grounds are great - you can really escape the city here. The majority of the grounds are taken up by a golf course, but you can still stroll around and enjoy them. There is a lovely lake, with hilly scenery and the caslte is about ten minuetes walk away. The restaurant is good value serving interesting (but fairly simple) dishes. Breakfast was also good with lots of choice and flexibility with what excatly goes into your full english!

There is a lot of golfing going on here - the grounds, bar and a lot of the other guests will invariably be centred around little white balls! Not really a problem and means that the grounds were immaculate and huge. Everyone was still friendly and welcoming. Our room was a little on the tired side and could have done with some rennovation. The decor and furniture in the bedroom in particular. The bathroom however was a good size and very well maintained. Overall we had a great stay and the place was reasonable value for £95 including breakfast (one night for two of us).

I was very dissappointed with my stay .A beautiful house and location ruined by lack of care.Staff moral seemed low. There is something very wrong with the management of this hotel. In my room the beautiful hand painted picture of a local scene had fallen out of it's frame ,the fittings were painted over,no water or refreshments. The T.V. only had 5 channels and the remote didn't work.Doors to staff galleys were left open. The staff lacked professionalism. The waitress looked like she had slept in her clothes and the room lacked any real ventilation so I coughed all night.Location was amazing apart from the golf course.Beautiful rivers and swans.

We only stayed for one night but the time spent was well worth and would definitely come again. Well done to all staff

Nice atmosphere in bar, good location for going for a run

    Very good

The bathroom had no bath which was disappointing. Given that there was only a shower I would have expected a complimentary showercap to be provided. On enquiring at reception I was told that it was not the hotel's policy to provide them. So I had to drive into Newbury to buy one.The general finish left a little to be desired in that the loo seat was loose, the basin leaked and the bathroom door caught on the floor. All of these faults were brought to the attention of the staff on departure. It would also appear that the cistern had not been properly attached to the wall as the whole thing rocked.

The walk along the river and lake in the sunshire was so relaxing.Very good and inexpensive breakfast served in the golf club house.

Staff adequately efficient but not very friendly.

This was an excellent choice of hotel. I was on business but if you are a golfer this is as good as it gets. Travel for my wife was not so good since the hotel was a bit out of town and only a few buses.

The dining area was down stairs so it would be difficult for someone who had difficulty walking.

Surroundings were very nice accommodation was very comfortable food was adequate, very quite in a secluded location within easy reach of town center

Stayed for the Rod Stewart concert

Lovely building, needs a bit of care and attention, room a bit bland, but very spacious

    Superb

I do enjoyed staying there as it was my second time. I was surprised when I was in the new building and the room was nicely done with modern decoration. During the evening, the meal I had was superb and the Spanish waiter was friendly.

Next morning, the breakfast could be better if without salty mushrooms and the poor waiter (different one) was struggling with understanding me. He made a few mistakes but he apolgised. It must be difficult for him to understand me because I'm deaf but I speak very well. I tried to explain to him in a very simple way but it doesnt work. A friend of mine explained to him and he finally understood. Sorry.

    Superb

The peaceful location- it had the feeling of a country estate- within 1 mile of a busy town centre. The castle-type building was most appealing - especially to we Australian travellers.

The old style of the hotel meant not all connecting rooms had locks on both sides!
